Ingredients
Basic Bread Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast (or active dry yeast)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil
- 3/4 cup warm water (about 105–110°F / 40–43°C)
Optional Add-Ins
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or dried herbs
- 1 tablespoon seeds (sesame, sunflower, or flax)
- 1 tablespoon honey instead of sugar
Equipment Needed
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon or spatula
- Clean surface for kneading
- Parchment paper
- Air fryer basket or pan
Step 1: Activate the Yeast (Skip if Using Instant Yeast)
- In a bowl, add warm water and sugar.
- Sprinkle yeast over the water.
- Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
If the yeast does not foam, it may be inactive and should be replaced.
Step 2: Make the Dough
- Add flour and salt to the bowl.
- Pour in the yeast mixture (or warm water if using instant yeast).
- Add oil.
- Mix until a rough dough forms.
The dough should be soft but not sticky. Add 1 tablespoon of flour if too wet, or 1 tablespoon of water if too dry.
Step 3: Knead the Dough
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.
- Knead for 8 to 10 minutes.
- The dough should become smooth and elastic.
If you press the dough gently, it should slowly spring back.
Step 4: First Rise
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl.
- Cover with a clean cloth or plastic wrap.
- Let rise in a warm place for 60 to 90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
If your kitchen is cool, place the bowl near a warm appliance.
Step 5: Shape the Bread
- Punch down the dough gently to release air.
- Shape it into a round loaf or oval shape that fits your air fryer.
- Place it on parchment paper.
Step 6: Second Rise
- Cover the shaped dough loosely.
- Let it rise for 20 to 30 minutes.
- The dough should puff up slightly but not double again.
This step improves softness.
Step 7: Preheat the Air Fryer
- Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 to 5 minutes.
- This helps the bread rise evenly.
Step 8: Bake the Bread
- Place the parchment paper with the dough into the air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
- Reduce temperature to 320°F (160°C).
- Cook for another 8 to 12 minutes.
The bread is done when:
- The top is golden
- It sounds hollow when tapped
- Internal temperature is about 190–200°F (88–93°C)
Step 9: Cool the Bread
- Remove the bread carefully.
- Place on a wire rack.
- Let cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
Cutting too early can make the bread gummy.
