Air Fryer Poached Eggs

Posted on January 8, 2026

What You Will Need

Ingredients

  • Fresh eggs (1 to 4)
  • Hot water
  • Salt (optional)
  • Black pepper or other seasonings (optional)

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Heatproof ramekins or small oven-safe bowls
  • Kettle or saucepan to heat water
  • Slotted spoon

Why Fresh Eggs Matter

Fresh eggs hold their shape much better. Older eggs tend to spread out in the water, resulting in wispy whites. If possible, use eggs that are less than one week old.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for 3 to 5 minutes.

Preheating helps the eggs start cooking immediately and prevents uneven whites.

Step 2: Prepare the Ramekins

Place one ramekin in the air fryer basket for each egg.

Carefully pour hot water into each ramekin until it reaches about 2 to 3 cm (1 inch) deep.
The water should be hot but not boiling.

Do not add the egg yet.

Step 3: Crack the Eggs

Crack each egg into a small bowl first.
This allows you to gently slide the egg into the water without breaking the yolk.

Slowly lower the egg into the ramekin of hot water.

Make sure the yolk is fully submerged.

Step 4: Cook the Eggs

Place the basket back into the air fryer.

Cook at 180°C (350°F) for:

  • 6 minutes for a very runny yolk
  • 7 minutes for a soft but slightly set yolk
  • 8 minutes for a medium yolk

Avoid opening the air fryer too often, as this releases heat and can affect cooking time.

Step 5: Remove and Drain

Carefully remove the ramekins from the air fryer.

Use a slotted spoon to lift the eggs out of the water.

Let excess water drain for a few seconds.

Step 6: Season and Serve

Season with salt and pepper if desired.

Serve immediately on:

  • Toast or English muffins
  • Avocado toast
  • Salads
  • Grain bowls
  • Eggs Benedict-style dishes

Helpful Tips for Perfect Results

  • Do not overcrowd the basket. Space helps even heating.
  • If whites look loose after cooking, you can return the egg to the air fryer for 30 more seconds.
  • Adding vinegar is not necessary for this method.
  • Always handle ramekins with care; they will be very hot.
