Lemon Garlic Chicken
Servings: 2–4
Time: 35–45 minutes
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs if you prefer)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced (fresh garlic works best)
- Juice of 1 large lemon (about 3 tablespoons)
- Zest of 1 lemon (optional, adds extra lemony flavor)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (or Italian seasoning)
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional for color and flavor)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Optional:
- 1 tablespoon butter for extra richness
- Lemon slices for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chicken
- Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Dry chicken browns better and prevents steaming.
- Season both sides with salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Be generous but not excessive—this is the base of your flavor.
Step 2: Make the Lemon Garlic Mixture
- In a small bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, and lemon zest.
- Mix well. This will be your marinade and sauce.
Optional: Add butter to the mixture for a richer, creamier flavor.
Step 3: Marinate the Chicken (Optional but Recommended)
- Place chicken in a shallow dish or a zip-top bag.
- Pour half of the lemon garlic mixture over the chicken.
- Let it marinate for 15–30 minutes at room temperature or up to 2 hours in the fridge.
This step enhances flavor, but you can cook immediately if you’re short on time.
Step 4: Cook the Chicken
You can cook lemon garlic chicken on the stove, in the oven, or in an air fryer.
Stove Method (Recommended for Juicy Chicken)
- Heat 1–2 tablespoons olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, add the chicken. Cook 4–6 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Chicken should reach 165°F (74°C) internally.
- Pour the remaining lemon garlic mixture over the chicken while it cooks. This creates a light sauce.
- If desired, reduce heat and simmer 2–3 minutes to let the sauce thicken slightly.
Oven Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Place chicken in a baking dish and pour the lemon garlic mixture over it.
- Bake 20–25 minutes until chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Optional: Broil for 2–3 minutes at the end for a golden top.
Air Fryer Method
- Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Place chicken in the basket and brush with lemon garlic mixture.
- Cook 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
Step 5: Serve
- Remove chicken from heat and let it rest for 2–3 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and lemon slices.
- Serve with sides like roasted vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad.
Tips for Perfect Lemon Garlic Chicken
- Don’t overcook: Chicken cooks quickly; overcooked chicken becomes dry.
- Use fresh lemon juice: It gives a bright, vibrant flavor that bottled lemon juice can’t match.
- Add herbs: Thyme, rosemary, or basil work well with lemon garlic.
- Make extra sauce: Drizzle any leftover lemon garlic mixture over cooked chicken or vegetables.
