Air Fryer Turkish Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 3 cups (360 g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 cup (240 ml) warm water (about 100–110°F / 37–43°C)
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp instant yeast (or active dry yeast)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Optional Toppings:
- 1 egg yolk (for egg wash) or milk
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds (optional)
: Activate the Yeast (if using active dry yeast)
- In a small bowl, mix the warm water and sugar.
- Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- If using instant yeast, you can skip this step and mix directly with flour.
Make the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture (or instant yeast + water) and olive oil.
- Mix with a spoon or your hands until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead the Dough
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- If the dough is sticky, add a little flour at a time.
- Shape the dough into a ball.
First Rise
- Lightly oil a bowl and place the dough inside.
- Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.
- Let it rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Bread
- Punch down the dough gently to release air.
- Divide the dough into 2–3 equal portions (depending on your air fryer basket size).
- Shape each portion into a round or oval flat loaf, about 1/2 inch thick.
Second Rise
- Place the shaped loaves on a parchment paper-lined tray.
- Cover loosely and let rise for 20–30 minutes.
Prepare for Air Frying
- Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for 3–5 minutes.
- Optional: Brush the top of each loaf with egg yolk or milk and sprinkle sesame or nigella seeds.
Air Fry the Bread
- Place 1–2 loaves in the air fryer basket (don’t overcrowd).
- Cook at 360°F (180°C) for 12–15 minutes.
- Halfway through, check and rotate if needed for even browning.
- The bread is done when golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped.
Cool and Serve
- Remove from the air fryer and cool on a wire rack for 5–10 minutes.
- Serve warm with butter, cheese, or your favorite Turkish dips like hummus or ezme.
Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Turkish Bread
- Make sure your water isn’t too hot; it can kill the yeast.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket—air circulation is key for a crispy crust.
- For extra softness inside, cover the bread loosely with a clean towel immediately after air frying.
