Air fryer soft egg

Posted on January 2, 2026

Ingredients

  • 1 or more whole eggs
Use fresh eggs for the best texture and flavor.
  • Water (for cooling after cooking)

That is all you need.

Equipment Needed

  • Air fryer
  • Heat-safe bowl (for ice water)
  • Tongs or spoon
  • Clean towel or paper towel

Step 1: Preparing the Eggs

Take the eggs out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes.

This step reduces the chance of cracking and helps the eggs cook more evenly.

Do not crack or pierce the eggs. They will be cooked whole in their shells.

Step 2: Preheating the Air Fryer

Turn on the air fryer and set it to 120°C to 130°C (250°F to 265°F).

Preheat for 3 minutes.

Lower temperatures are important for soft eggs. High heat can overcook the yolk.

Step 3: Placing the Eggs in the Air Fryer

Carefully place the eggs in the air fryer basket.

Make sure the eggs are in a single layer and not stacked on top of each other.

Leave small gaps between eggs so hot air can circulate properly.

Close the air fryer basket gently.

Step 4: Cooking Time for Soft Egg

Set the timer for 9 to 10 minutes.

This timing produces:

  • Fully cooked egg whites
  • Soft, creamy, slightly runny yolk

Cooking time may vary slightly depending on:

  • Size of the eggs
  • Air fryer model
  • Starting egg temperature

For very soft yolk:

  • Cook for 8 to 9 minutes

For slightly firmer yolk:

  • Cook for 10 to 11 minutes

Do not shake or open the basket during cooking.

Step 5: Preparing the Cooling Bath

While the eggs are cooking, prepare a bowl of cold water.

If possible, add ice to make ice water.

This step is very important because it:

  • Stops the cooking process
  • Keeps the yolk soft
  • Makes peeling easier

Step 6: Cooling the Eggs

When the timer ends, carefully remove the eggs using tongs or a spoon.

Immediately place the eggs into the cold water.

Let them cool for 5 minutes.

Do not skip this step. Without cooling, the eggs will continue to cook inside.

Step 7: Peeling the Soft Egg

Gently tap the egg on a flat surface to crack the shell.

Start peeling from the wider end of the egg, where there is usually a small air pocket.

Peel slowly and carefully, especially because soft eggs are more delicate.

Rinse under water if small shell pieces stick.

Step 8: Checking the Soft Egg

Cut the egg in half carefully.

The result should be:

  • Firm white
  • Warm, creamy yolk that slowly flows

If the yolk is too runny for your taste, increase cooking time by 1 minute next time.

If the yolk is too firm, reduce cooking time by 1 minute.
