Ingredients
- 1 slice bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon butter or oil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Optional toppings:
- Cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or parmesan)
- Chili flakes
- Herbs
- Ketchup or hot sauce
Equipment Needed
- Air fryer
- Spoon
- Small cup or bowl (to crack the egg)
Step 1: Prepare the Bread
Take one slice of bread and press down firmly in the center using the back of a spoon or your fingers. Create a shallow hole without breaking through the bottom. This will hold the egg.
Lightly spread butter or oil on the surface of the bread, including the edges.
Step 2: Add the Egg
Crack the egg into a small bowl first. This helps prevent shells from falling into the toast.
Carefully pour the egg into the center of the bread. If the bread hole is small, you may need to remove a little of the egg white so it does not overflow.
Sprinkle salt and black pepper on top.
Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes. Preheating helps the bread crisp evenly.
Step 4: Air Fry the Egg Toast
Place the prepared bread carefully into the air fryer basket.
Cook at 350°F (175°C):
- For a runny yolk: 6–7 minutes
- For a soft but set yolk: 7–8 minutes
- For a fully cooked egg: 8–9 minutes
If adding cheese, sprinkle it on during the last 1–2 minutes of cooking.
Step 5: Check and Serve
Carefully remove the egg toast from the air fryer. The bread should be golden and crisp, and the egg cooked to your preference.
Let it rest for 1 minute before eating, as the egg will be hot.
Tips for Best Results
- Use thicker bread to prevent the egg from leaking
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket
- If the top cooks too fast, lower the temperature to 330°F
- Line the basket lightly with parchment paper if needed
